Elaine Ackers


Elaine was educated at Chethams school of Music and then the Guildhall School of music and drama where she completed her studies with distinction in 1987. She has played and toured extensively with many UK orchestras including the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Scottish Chamber orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony orchestra, The Philharmonia, Welsh National Opera, English Chamber Orchestra and guest led BBC Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Orchestra of the Swan. She has played with CBSO for more than 20 years, plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company regularly and is principal cellist of Longborough Festival Opera Orchestra. She has played solo and chamber music recitals in venues around the UK and broadcast for BBC radio 3.

Elaine has played with BCMG for almost 20 years. She has also been actively involved with the BCMG learning and education department since its inception, participating in a broad range of projects. She has taught at Birmingham Junior Conservatoire since 1994, was appointed an Associated Board diploma examiner in 2004, has coached strings for NYO and regularly coaches and adjudicates at festivals and competitions.

BCMG highlights include: a European tour with Simon Rattle; performances at Salzburg festival, the BBC Proms, and Aldeburgh festival; a UK tour with Howard Skempton’s Delicate; all the improvisation workshops and concerts with Peter Wiegold; and Elaine has particularly enjoyed the many rural tours.
