Why Sound Investment

If we love music, there is no greater cause than ensuring its future. Sound Investors have become a vital part of BCMG's extended family, supporting the creativity of composers and embarking on that most exciting of journeys as a new work comes to life. Long may this special scheme thrive.

Sir Simon Rattle, BCMG Founding Patron

Since 1987, the Group has given more than 120 premieres of new pieces and in total has given more than 490 performances of these new works. Many have been broadcast by the BBC and taken up by other ensembles around the world. We commission a broad portfolio of composers through Sound Investment, from those who are internationally established, to young composers whose music is not yet widely known, and composers from overseas whose music may not be extensively performed in the UK. All are chosen because we believe their music deserves to be heard and shared with everyone.

Composers commissioned include Thomas Adès, John Woolrich, Colin Matthews, Gerald Barry, David Lang, Thea Musgrave, Osvaldo Golijov, Philip Cashian, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Simon Holt, Poul Ruders, Brett Dean, Judith Weir, Howard Skempton, Tansy Davies, Johannes Maria Staud and Luke Bedford.
