Higher education & beyond

BCMG gives regular student composer playthroughs of new work, in particular for The University of Birmingham and Birmingham Conservatoire. In these workshops students have the opportunity to compose for BCMG ensembles of various sizes and instrumentations and they have previously been conducted by Thomas Adès, Christopher Austin, Richard Baker, Susanna Mälkki, Peter Wiegold, Edwin Roxburgh and Dominic Muldowney.

We also provide opportunities for student musicians to perform alongside the Group’s professional musicians. This has included student musicians from The University of Birmingham, Birmingham Conservatoire and the Manson Ensemble from the Royal Academy of Music playing alongside BCMG musicians in performances of Louis Andriessen’s Workers Union; Bruno Maderna’s Serenata per un Satellite; and, Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Tierkreis. We always welcome enquiries from new higher education institutions.
