Christoph Trestler has been appointed as the new Chair of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. He succeeds Stephen Saltaire, who is stepping down after 15 years in the role.
Christoph Trestler is responsible for global Project Finance business at Norddeutsche Landesbank, a German public bank that has its headquarters in Hannover. Based in the UK, he is a passionate music enthusiast. He is also Chair of GFO Gesellschaft der Freunde der Oper, Hannover, and on the supervisory board of Stiftung Staatsoper Hannover and is a member of the Kuratorium of the Stiftung der HMTMH (University for Music, Theatre and Media, Hannover). In the UK, he served on the development group and as a Trustee of the London Sinfonietta (2004 – 2012) and supports a range of cultural organisations, including NMC Recordings, Aurora Orchestra, Spitalfields Music Festival, Whitechapel Gallery and Camden Arts Centre.
Christoph Trestler comments:
‘It is always exciting to be involved in something new, and when that ‘new’ thing is music, I have found the pleasures to be limitless. BCMG’s reputation as a commissioner and performer of contemporary music is second to none and I am very much looking forward to playing my part in ensuring that the ensemble continues to do what it does best, at the very centre of the music of today, and tomorrow.’
BCMG Board Member, Kenneth Baird, comments:
‘Christoph Trestler combines wide business experience on an international platform with a passion for new music and contemporary arts, and a keen interest in the work of composers and musicians. He will inherit a strong legacy on which to build, and all at BCMG are looking forward to working with him to do just that.
I would also like to thank BCMG’s outgoing Chair, Stephen Saltaire, for his extraordinary commitment and energy over the past 15 years. He leaves BCMG with a sound balance sheet, successful track record of fund raising and on an artistic high, fittingly in a season which includes more world and UK premieres than ever before.’
