For half term, BCMG will be heading over to Trefoil House for workshops for young people aged 8-18 years old.
Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s musicians are some of the best in the world – right at the cutting edge of new music composition and performance. At BCMG’s regular Music Maze and Zigzag Ensemble workshops, young people get to work right alongside the professional musicians and create and perform their very own pieces of music
Young people aged 8-11 can join Nancy Evans, Director of Learning and Participation, and BCMG musicians for Music Maze – In October’s Music Maze Nancy and the team will explore, use and transform sounds from different sources to compose new music – recordings of sounds from the environment, sounds that everyday objects make, music we already know and our own original ideas. Music Maze is suitable for complete beginners so children do not need to play a musical instrument to take part. Book online here:http://bit.ly/MMoct17
For those aged 12-18, there’s Zigzag Ensemble led by composer/bassist Ben Markland alongside BCMG musicians. In the workshops, participants create pieces from scratch inspired by music featured in BCMG concerts. To take part in Zigzag Ensemble, young people will need to play a musical instrument and read a bit of music notation. Book online here: http://bit.ly/zzoct17
There will be a short performance of all music created at 2pm.
