The 2018-19 Season, ‘Music and Society’, aims to position contemporary music in a meaningful context that extends far beyond the walls of the concert hall and our traditional audience. The season is full of exciting concerts and events, both at home and abroad. Highlights include:

  • The world premiere of David Sawer’s new work, Caravanserai, alongside the Birmingham premiere of Oliver Knussen’s Sound Investment, O Hototogisu! – fragment of a japonisme
  • A repeat performance of Canal Serenade on the Singel Canal in Utrecht, opening the 2018 Gaudeamus Muziekweek Festival
  • A concert at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, with the Arditti Quartet, celebrating the music of Brian Ferneyhough in his 75th year
  • Performances as part of London Design Festival, in collaboration with the V&A
  • Two concerts in Trier, Germany, commemorating the bicentenary of Karl Marx’s birth, with a host of specially commissioned pieces, and our composing competition winners
  • More events in our Insight series, where BCMG, artists and performers are given the opportunity to perform, enjoy and discuss key pieces from our concert programme
