Listen Imagine Compose Away Day

The Listen Imagine Compose Away Day will bring together researchers, composers, teachers and arts organisations for a day of presentations, discussions and practical activities focusing on how composing is taught and learned in secondary schools. It is an invaluable opportunity for secondary music teachers to explore the latest research, participate in group discussions with peers and practitioners and to further develop their approach to teaching composing. 

The focus of this year’s Away Day is progress, focusing on composing at KS3. We will be considering what progress looks (and sounds) like and how can we ensure that progress in composing skills happens at KS3. How can popular KS3 schemes of work be used to support progression in composing skills? How can pupils be encouraged to develop their thinking and creativity as composers?

The Away Day will be hosted by Professor Martin Fautley and will also feature presentations from professional composers and leaders in music education including Anthony Anderson, Advanced Skills Teacher and Outstanding Facilitator with the National College, also from Birmingham City University.
