The People's Orchestra as part of Contemporary Music for All Festival

14 October 2018, 7.30pm
CBSO Centre, Birmingham

Come and hear the results of BCMG musicians working with The People’s Orchestra.

The central piece in the programme will be I am Swimming by Nigel Osborne. Nigel is a recipient of many awards both for his music and for his humanitarian work in areas of conflict. Most recently he won the British Composer Award for Inspiration at the BASCA 2017 British Composer Awards. I am Swimming is a 30 minute work, with accompanying film, that charts the journey of a refugee using the words of child refugees that Nigel has met and worked with through his work with SAWA, a charity in Lebanon working with Syrian refugees. We are delighted that Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham will be supporting this event and joining us for a discussion on the wider issues Nigel’s piece raises.

Also in the programme will be a clutch of other new commissions including works by George Lewis, Jack White and Ailís Ní Ríain composed especially for the festival.
