Executive Director

As BCMG’s Executive Director, Seb has overall responsibility for the production and delivery of BCMG’s artistic and business plans.

A brief history

Seb graduated from a music degree at the University of Manchester, and then interned for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He worked for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for two years and fell in love with Birmingham – after a brief stint at City of London Sinfonia, he got the job at BCMG in 2017 and became its Executive Director in 2019.

Fun facts

If Seb's not organising concerts for BCMG, he's usually found in the rehearsal room of various amateur orchestras, as he's an enthusiastic cellist. He plays regularly with the Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra, Stafford Sinfonia, Spires Philharmonic Orchestra, Tewkesbury Camerata and Sinfonia of Birmingham to name a few.

Best thing about working at BCMG?

"BCMG has so many facets, and for me the best thing about my job is that moment of silence just after a new commission has had its world premiere – a breathless pause as the audience and musicians contemplate what they’ve just heard, when the air is still fizzing and you feel totally connected to one another. As for Birmingham as a whole, it's beautiful, energetic and vibrant. It’s in the heart of the country – it’s got a rich history and an exciting future."
