Imagine six vehicles sitting on top of a car park in the centre of Birmingham communicating at a distance using only their car horns. Birmingham Contemporary Music Group will be performing Before Tomorrow by Fabien Lévy at Edgbaston Street Car Park as part of Birmingham Weekender, join us for a playful yet provocative musical conversation on ourselves and the world during the global pandemic.

What happened to us during the Corona crisis? More generally, what is happening to us? What happens to our planet, to the plant, animal, and mineral species that we live with and exploit without scruples? When will we, apprentices of Prometheus, understand that we are not as powerful as we think we are? That we cannot produce and transform indefinitely without being accountable for what we destroy? That the value of things cannot be reduced to their use value, even less to their exchange value?  

Imagine six vehicles, stranded in a crumbling world, which alternate with a touch of irony a dance of exorcization of current anxieties with a funeral song.  

 

Before Tomorrow is an example of the distancing we have all become so used to, and as the world eases its restrictions, it is the perfect piece to come together and reflect on what we have been through in the last 18 months.   

This event is part of Birmingham Weekender, the cultural festival funded by Bullring & Grand Central, Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Hippodrome and Arts Council England. Birmingham Weekender combines a mix of dance, music, film, performances and installations across the shopping destination featuring many of the best artists from Birmingham and the West Midlands.
