Over 5 nights Services For Education will showcase the musical talents of over 3000 young musicians from across Birmingham. Featuring performances from SFE Central Ensembles, Area Ensembles, School Based Ensembles and Birmingham Schools' Primary Choir as well as guest artists each evening.

Birmingham Schools' Brass Band will open their set with the premiere of a fanfare composed by Bobbie-Jane Gardner. The fanfare is inspired by the band’s connections to the Commonwealth, including India and Leeds.  Stories of migration and hospitality to new communities form the heart and main catalyst for this celebratory piece.

Birmingham Schools' Steel Band will open their set with the premiere of a fanfare composed by Pablo Barrios, celebrating the Trinidadian heritage of steel pan and uses the Trinidadian soca music tradition as the main inspiration for this short piece.

BCMG's Flourish! project re-imagines the fanfare – a ubiquitous part of sporting ceremonies – for the 21st Century and bring together communities through the medium of music. Throughout the spring and summer of 2022, we will be working with 10 ‘musical triangles’, each comprising of a non-professional or youth ensemble, a composer, and a Commonwealth connection, to create fanfares inspired by and celebrating the Commonwealth - its nations, individuals and values of diversity and tolerance.
