Flourish! @ Live in the Lodge Friday 29 July, 17:00 Castle Vale Neighbourhood Festival Site FREE Live in the Lodge, an inter-generational community music programme based in Falcon Lodge, Sutton Coldfield, will share a varied programme of music from the musicians they work with each week. Their performance will open with the premiere of a new fanfare composed by Katie Stevens, commissioned as part of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Flourish! project. The fanfare takes inspiration from the folk music traditions of Malta. Flourish! re-imagines the fanfare – a ubiquitous part of sporting ceremonies – for the 21st Century and bring together communities through the medium of music. Throughout the spring and summer of 2022, BCMG have been working with 10 ‘musical triangles’, each comprising of a non-professional or youth ensemble, a composer, and a Commonwealth connection, to create fanfares inspired by and celebrating the Commonwealth - its nations, individuals and values of diversity and tolerance. Flourish! is a Creative Cities Project generously funded by Birmingham City Council, presented as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.
