Percy Pursglove has worked with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and communities from the four wards of Birmingham’s Northfield district. The collaborators are: Year 5 from Jervoise Primary School in Weoley Castle, the teen home-education group who meet at Northfield Methodist Church and the NAFcaf at Northfield Baptist Church.

Nord Feld Stefn is a participatory piece based around the sounds and people of Northfield. During the performance, the audience will be able to trigger field recordings made in Northfield via a free app to create their own bespoke sonic compositional layer, allowing each audience member to have their own unique experience. Headphones will be provided.
The performances at the NAFcafs on Thursday 29 June will include community performers from all four Northfield wards alongside BCMG musicians. The community performers will create massed vocal textures which will frame other parts of the composition. These vocal textures have been generated through composing workshops using a new notation system involving emoticons.
