Services for Education Youth Proms, Symphony Hall

Services For Education Music Service will showcase the musical talents of over 3000 young musicians from across Birmingham. Featuring performances from SFE Central Ensembles, Area Ensembles, School Based Ensembles and Birmingham Schools' Primary Choir.

This concert will include the Birmingham Schools’ Recorder Sinfonia, an SFE Central Ensemble of young musicians conducted by Michelle Holloway. Their performance will include the premiere of a composition by Marcus Rock, commissioned as part of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Flourish! project.

Flourish! commissions new music for Birmingham-based youth and non-professional ensembles and gives them the opportunity to work with composers. Through the Spring and Summer of 2023, we have been working with four composers and ensembles. Each composer hascomposed a short, engaging, dynamic piece of music that will celebrate something, somewhere or someone that has strong and positive connections with Birmingham.

The 2023 Flourish! Project is generously funded by Birmingham City Council Creative Cities Legacy Grant.
