Performances Spectre ... World will be performed in Trier on Saturday 1 September.

“A spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of Communism”. This is the start of “The Communist Manifesto” by Marx and Engels. Today the spectre is haunting the globalisation era.

The materialism of that time is a sort of spirituality today, a new form of resistance against the abuses of those who want to abuse in every corner of the world.

How was my piece born? I was invited by film director Sebastiano d’Ayala Valva to shoot some improvisations on the Ondiola at Giacinto Scelsi’s house in Rome for his movie The first movement of the immovable. It will be premiered in Autumn 2018 and will include a short monody that I improvised.

Using the instrument on which Scelsi composed his masterpieces, I recorded numerous takes. Then, back home, I started a compositional process inspired by Scelsi’s way to make music.  Through superpositions and collages of all kinds, by always preserving the original sound, I made a composition that consists of several layers of monodic tracks. In the future I plan to make an instrumental version of this piece (as Scelsi did of all his improvisations).

This alchemy is my contribution to the spectre haunting the globalisation era.
“Spectre … World” is dedicated to the memory of Luigi Pestalozza.
