Bassoon

NEXT Musician 2019-20

Born in Bologna in 1995, Edoardo studied bassoon from the age of 16 in Bologna with Lorenzo Bettini, graduating with top marks in 2015. He then studied at the RNCM in Manchester (MMus, PGDip) with Stefano Canuti and Roberto Giaccaglia, graduating with Distinction. He’s currently studying Composition in Milan, where he's based.

As a soloist he has performed concertos by Vivaldi, Michael Daugherty and C. M. Von Weber in both Italy and the UK. As a passionate chamber musician he has performed with different ensembles ranging from the Bassoon/Contrabassoon duo with RNCM Honorary Associate Artist Andrès Yauri to wind quintets and larger ensembles, including a trio with Kimi Makino (Sub Principal Viola, BBC Philharmonic). In 2016 he has been a member of the Italian Youth Orchestra and has performed with conductors such as Daniele Gatti, Jurah Valchua, Sir Jeffrey Tate, Andris Poga and Alexander Lonquich.

According to his interest in performing contemporary music, in 2019 he was been selected to perform at the Britten-Pears Young Artist program (Composition & Performance) at Snape Maltings. He has also worked with the Orchestra Giovanile Cherubini and Riccardo Muti, The Hallè, BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata, and has toured throughout in Italy, Europe, and China.
