NEXT Musician 2019-20

British-Canadian clarinettist and composer is in their last year of undergraduate study at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. They study clarinet with Andrew Webster, Andrew Marriner, Joy Farrell, Robert Ault, James Burke, Jennifer McLaren and Ausiàs Garrigós Morant, and composition with Paul Whitmarsh and Nye Parry.

Raymond is heavily invested in new music and strives to continue to give voice to 21st-century composers, particularly for the inclusion of auxiliary clarinets and the use of electro-acoustic performance mediums. He is currently establishing his own new-music recital series in London ‘The Thinking Minds Project’ premiering a collection of new works for solo clarinet for which he commissioned up-and-coming composers from around the world, as well as his own podcast on  musicians and mental health.

Other recent new-music highlights include performing and premiering a collection of late 20th century and brand new works with the American Modern Orchestra at the Mostly Modern Festival in New York, USA, and his most recent premieres include Marshlands – For Solo Contrabass Flute and Max Patch (2019), and Study in Green (2018).
