Maja grew up in a musical family in Krakow, Poland and started her music education at the age of 7. From the beginning, she played in various chamber ensembles and was exposed to performing contemporary music. She developed an interest in composition and free improvisation at an early age. In June 2014 she was awarded first prize in a school composition competition for her works inspired by a tour to Norway and Iceland she went on as a member of Cracow Youth Chamber Orchestra.

From September 2014 she studied violin at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the tutelage of Pavel Fischer, graduating in 2018 with first class honours. A big part of Maja's final year at the Conservatoire was organisation of an original project, Kaleidoscope, which brought together composers and performers into a creative collaboration and led to two concerts of new music devised during the project. After graduation Maja joined, as a lead violinist, the Infinite Opera company - an innovative group promoting science through opera and committed to reaching new audiences.

She also formed a contemporary duet with percussionist Gloria Yehilevsky, which led to performances in Birmingham and Sweden. Since September 2016 she has also been active as an instrumental teacher and music educator, working with individuals and communities in Birmingham and beyond.

Maja is excited to be part of the new NEXT cohort, as it is a unique opportunity to meet and learn from amazing composers and BCMG musicians, working closely with other young people who share her interest and passion for contemporary music.
